NEET PG college shortlisting guide

How to shortlist MD/MS/DNB colleges using your NEET PG AIR

A useful NEET PG shortlist is more than a list of colleges with closing ranks near your AIR. It should reflect your preferred specialty, counselling eligibility, quota, category, fees and service commitments. Neetnomics brings historical counselling research and choice planning into one workflow.

What should you check before choosing colleges?

Start with your NEET PG All India Rank (AIR), category, and the branches you would genuinely consider. A closing rank belongs to a specific college–course–quota–category combination and counselling round. Comparing an unrelated quota or category can give a misleading picture of your options.

Make separate notes for MCC/AIQ routes and any state counselling routes you may be eligible for. State admission rules, reservation criteria and rank types differ; eligibility must be checked against the relevant current official notification.

A practical five-step shortlisting method

  1. Set your profile. Enter your AIR, category and relevant counselling preferences. Decide which MD, MS and DNB specialties are acceptable to you.
  2. Explore the right options. Use the Neetnomics College & Cutoff Database to research college-course combinations. My View focuses the results around your rank and saved preferences while keeping room to explore wider options.
  3. Compare rounds and years. Inspect available historical Round 1, Round 2 and Round 3 closing ranks for the same option, quota and category rather than relying on one cutoff number.
  4. Check the practical details. Review college information, fees, stipend and service-bond terms where available. A historically reachable option may still be unsuitable for your budget or career plans.
  5. Save a genuine shortlist. Move colleges you would actually consider into your Wishlist, then prepare an ordered, round-wise plan before final choice filling.

How Neetnomics helps you compare MD, MS and DNB options

Neetnomics combines MCC/AIQ and DNB research with historical college and cutoff information. My View uses your AIR, category and preferences to focus your research. You can compare multiple course options, including more competitive and wider historical possibilities, without treating a historical cutoff as a promise of admission.

Supported state counselling data is available separately, with state-specific eligibility guidance and rank-type context where provided. State coverage and data completeness vary; verify the current rules with the relevant authority.

Example: interpreting a historical closing rank

Suppose an illustrative college-course option closed at AIR 13,000 in a previous Round 2 and your AIR is 12,000. That tells you the option was allotted at that rank in that past round. It does not establish that you will receive the seat in 2026. Seat changes, quota and category, fresh allotments, upgrades and other candidates' choices may alter the outcome.

This is why a good shortlist keeps preferred ambitious options alongside historically broader options, and why preference order should reflect where you actually want to study.

Frequently asked questions

Can I shortlist NEET PG colleges using only my AIR?

AIR is a starting point, not a complete counselling profile. Specialty preferences, category, seat type, quota and state eligibility affect which historical records are relevant.

Does Neetnomics include DNB?

Yes. Neetnomics supports research into MCC/AIQ and DNB college-course options, including historical cutoffs and relevant college details where available.

Does a past closing rank predict my allotment?

No. Historical ranks and Neetnomics' planning indicators are reference information, not official allotment probabilities or guarantees. Always check current MCC and state counselling notices.
